WELCOME TO BAY AREA ADULT SOCCER LEAGUE!

Welcome to Bay Area Adult Soccer League’s fall season! We are so happy you are joining us. We are a longtime community of wonderful people from all over the world. At BAASL, we focus on healthy competition, enjoyment, wellness, and making positive social connections. This is a place where self-accountability is the norm and everyone on and off the field feels respected and safe. Below, please review important season information including rules, schedules, and league-specific details (click your league’s link at the very bottom of this page).

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!

Sincerely,

BAASL Administration

PLEASE READ VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: YOUR SEASON BELOW, ESPECIALLY YOUR LEAGUE’S SPECIFIC INFORMATION IN THE LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.

ALL PLAYERS

  • All players are required to upload a headshot size photo into their player profile. The photo should be low-resolution less than 3 MB. A screenshot of a photo will usually work. Don’t forget to hit “Save” at the bottom after you add your photo.

  • Shinguards and long socks are required! Please review the rules in their entirety. See below.

CAPTAINS

  • Please log in to your LeagueApps account and from the Dashboard find the link to Add/Invite players and enter player email addresses to send “invites” to your players. Each player who accepts the invite and completes their profile is automatically confirmed to the team roster. Check your online roster to monitor players’ acceptance of the invites and ensure each player has uploaded headshot photo which will appear to your roster and used to verify players at check-in with referees. New captains should review the team captains/new teams page at www.baasl.org/newteams.

  • Please review the BAASL Fee Policy and Forfeit Deposit Policy.

NEW TEAMS

  • Welcome to the league! Please review important basics HERE for running your team successfully.

FREE AGENTS

  • If you are a free agent and have not been officially moved to a team roster or have not been contacted by a team captain via email, phone or the Leagueapps invite system, you have not yet been assigned to a team.

  • Please review our Free Agent Policy.

SCHEDULE, STANDINGS & GAME LENGTH

  • To access the game schedule and standings table, at the top of this page click “Schedule & Standings” and find the link to your league.

  • There are 2 versions of the game schedule. The official master schedule is the “Mysoccerleague” version accessible by using the above “Schedule and Standings” link. The alternate version of the schedule is seen within your Leagueapps player profile and is programmed to email you a game reminder with field location and game time 2 days prior to your match. The Mysoccerleague schedule supersedes the Leagueapps schedule and should always be defaulted to under all circumstances.

  • The entire season schedule will be available by week 2 to both “Mysoccerleague” and “Leagueapps” online schedules.

  • All 8v8 and 5v5 matches are 50-minutes long with two 25-minute halves, except Saturdays which has 70-minutes matches (two 35-minute halves).

  • All 11v11 matches are 90-minutes long with two 45-minute halves.

MATCH RULES SUMMARY

BAASL follows FIFA Laws with BAASL-specific modifications to adapt to our game conditions. Many of these modifications were formed by a large pool of team captains during past BAASL captains’ meetings.

A summary of key points follows, but the entire set of rules should be accessed by clicking the Rules & Forms link at the top of this page.

  • Division winners receive a team trophy and individual medals for each player. Jerseys or same-colored shirts with identifying numbers should be worn to ensure a smooth game experience. If there is a jersey conflict, the Home team is required to change. Always bring a back up color. Teams made up of free agents have a one-season exception from this requirement but should still wear the same color shirt with a number on the back.

  • Shinguards, long socks and cleats or appropriate athletic shoes are required at all times. Cleats should not be worn in 5v5 futsal. Indoor soccer shoes are recommended but not required.

  • No jewelry, watches, or casts allowed.

  • Teams must check-in with the referee prior to the game using the team roster accessible via your Leagueapps player profile. All team players must be officially registered and appear on the current team roster including a clear headshot photo and jersey number. Guest players/unregistered are not allowed.

  • All 8v8 and 5v5 games allow Flying Substitutions, which means that subs are unlimited and do not require referee permission but must enter the playing field from the midfield along the touch line, after the exiting player has cleared the field.

  • All 11v11 matches require referee permission for all substitutions and must enter the playing field from the midfield along the touch line, after the exiting player has cleared the field. Substitutions are unlimited.

  • Yellow Card Time-Outs (“Sin Bins”) are observed for 3 minutes in 8v8s and 5v5s, 5 minutes in the Saturday league, and 5 minutes in 11v11 leagues. Men’s 11v11 Yellow Cards for more serious offenses require 10 minutes out. No substitutes are allowed during Sin Bins. The team must play short.

  • Red Cards require a minimum one-game suspension or more depending on the severity of the infraction.  Red cards for Abusive & Offensive Language towards game officials carry a minimum 2-game suspension.  More than one Red Card in any BAASL league is subject to review for suspension/expulsion. Disciplinary matters that are more complex may be forward to the Disciplinary Panel for review. The panel consists of longtime BAASL players, admins, referees and related parties. The review takes a minimum of 2 weeks to resolve and all involved persons are required to sit out until a determination is made, unless otherwise specified.

  • In 8v8 leagues, there is no Off-sides Rule in effect.

  • In 11v11 leagues, the Off-sides Rule is active and in full force.

  • No pets are allowed at any sports complex or indoor recreation center except dogs that are classified as service animals due to a disability. Emotional support animals do not qualify.

  • Only water is allowed on the turf (no sugary drinks, snacks, sunflower seeds, etc).

  • Forfeits: A forfeit not notified in writing to the league at least 24 hours in advance results in a loss of the team’s forfeit deposit and a one-point deduction in standings.

  • Ball Recovery Rule for 8v8 leagues:  If a person kicks an opponent’s ball over a fence, that person will not be allowed to play until the ball is returned. Anyone on their team can retrieve the ball. The player themself is advised, but not required, to recover the ball. If there is any confusion as to which team the ball belongs to, the captains should clarify with the referee. If the ball was kicked to an inaccessible area, the player who kicked the ball out should make a reasonable arrangement with the ball’s owner to replace the lost ball. The player who kicked the ball out cannot play until an agreement has been reached.

  • 8v8 Coed Designated Player (“DP”) Rule - Minimum 3 females required on the field at all times. One female may be substituted by a male player age 44+.  At least one female player must be on the field to avoid a forfeit. A game is not forfeited if the only female player is injured during the course of the match. Possible scenarios:

Option #1 - Three females or more on the field
Option #2 - Two females on the field, plus 1 male age 44 or over
Option #3 - One female on the field, plus 1 male age 44+, and team plays short one player
Option #4 - No female on the field - game is subject to a forfeit, but encouraged to be played as a friendly match

  • 11v11 Coed Designated Player (“DP”) Rule - No more than 6 men may be on the field at any time with the exception of up to 1 male 44 years old or older taking the place of a female player. One female may be substituted by a male player age 44+.  At least one female player must be on the field to avoid a forfeit. A game is not forfeited if the only female player is injured during course of the match. Possible scenarios:

Option #1 - Five females or more on the field
Option #2 - Four females on the field, plus 1 male age 44 or over.
Option #3 - Three females on the field, plus 1 male age 44+, plus team plays down one player; or, 3 females on the field, plus no male age 44+, plus team plays down two players.
Option #4 - No female on the field - game is subject to a forfeit, but is encouraged to be played as a friendly match
