WELCOME TO BAASL SUNDAY 11V11 MENS league!

Welcome to Spring season! Congratulations to ABCDE FC and Los Tigres Del Norte division champions! The first matches of the season on March 16 will be friendlies. There will be no matches scheduled on May 25. Matches will take place at Orinda Wilder at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm; Tom Bates Gilman at 7pm and 9pm and Emeryville 6pm.

Note that Orinda Wilder Field 1 game times will be at 7pm and 9pm this season.

As in all prior seasons, we will continue the ‘10-minute Yellow Card Sin Bins with no subs’ for the infractions listed in the Rules below. Jersey numbers designated to each player on the team continue to be REQUIRED and all jerseys/shirts must be the SAME color. Pinnies can be used along with taped numbers. Printed rosters with jersey #s must be provided to the referee crew at each game.

We will also begin requesting that any planned forfeits be notified with 48 hrs. in advance. The prior 24 hrs. notice requirement has proven too small a window to find another 11v11 team to fill in and we want to make sure every team gets to play all games for which they have been scheduled for the season. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and we are looking forward to another great season with all of you!

The Mysoccerleague schedule supersedes the Leagueapps schedule and should be defaulted to under all circumstances.

  • The season schedule will be posted to both “Mysoccerleague” and “Leagueapps” online schedules.

  • There are typically no games scheduled on major holidays such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.

  • Possible game times are as follows: Tom Bates Sports Complex (Berkeley Gilman) 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9pm (last game ending by 11pm).  Orinda Wilder Fields 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9pm (last game ending by 11pm). • Cities and school districts have strict procedures and place increased emphasis on protecting the use of permit-holding groups. Our use is limited to game times with a 15-minute grace period at the end of the last game of the day.  Players should avoid stepping onto any part of the turf/grass prior to the start of the game in order to avoid encroaching on other permitted groups’ field time. Lights go out exactly at 11pm at Berkeley and 10:15pm at Orinda. IMPORTANT ADVISEMENT

From City of Berkeley (COB) re: Tom Bates Sports Complex/Gilman Fields

Tom Bates Goals

Please be advised that all goals on the sports fields are to remain in their designated locations at all times they are all numbered according to location. Removing, moving, or repositioning the goals is strictly prohibited.

This measure is in place to maintain field safety, prevent damage to equipment, and ensure proper field setup for scheduled games and practices.

Help Keep Our Sports Fields in Top Condition!

To ensure our sports fields remain safe and enjoyable for everyone, please follow these important guidelines:

✅ Avoid Creating Divots:

  • Be mindful when using cleats — avoid twisting or digging into the turf, as this can create divots and damage the field.

  • If you notice any divots, please help by gently pressing them back into place.

✅ Respect the Field:

  • Use designated entry and exit points.

  • Avoid practicing or warming up in high-traffic areas to prevent excessive wear.

  • Do not use the field when it’s wet or muddy to prevent damage.

✅ Clean Up After Yourself:

  • Dispose of trash and equipment properly.

  • Leave the field as you found it — or even better!

Thank you for helping us maintain the quality of our sports fields for everyone to enjoy and for your cooperation in keeping our parks clean and organized!

MATCH RULES

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ IMPORTANT RULE UPDATES EFFECTIVE SUMMER 2024, UNDERLINED BELOW.

SHINGUARDS AND LONG SOCKS REQUIRED. SAME-COLORED JERSEYS WITH ASSIGNED NUMBER REQUIRED.

NO APPLE WATCHES, FITBITS, DEVICES, OR JEWELRY ALLOWED.

BAASL follows FIFA Laws with some modifications to adapt to BAASL game conditions. Many of these league-specific modifications were made by a large pool of team captains during past BAASL captains’ meetings. Please note that IFAB added modifications to the rules in 2021. A summary of key points follows and a link to the complete rules is available in the last bullet or by clicking the Rules & Forms link at the top of this page.

·       Division winners receive a team trophy and individual medals for each player.

·       Please wear jerseys or same-colored shirts with identifying numbers on the back. If there is a jersey color conflict, the HOME team is required to change. Always bring a back up color. Teams made up of free agents have a one-season exception from this requirement but still need to have the same color shirt with a number on the back.

·       Shinguards, long socks and cleats or appropriate athletic shoes are required at all times.

·       Teams must check-in with the referee prior to the game with the team roster, accessible via your Leagueapps player profile. All team players must be officially registered and appear on the current team roster including a clear headshot photo and jersey number. Guest players are not allowed.

·       Substitutions are unlimited but require referee permission and must enter the field from the midfield line along the touch line, after the exiting player has cleared the field.

·       Yellow Card Time-Outs (“Sin Bins”) for simple infractions are observed for 5 minutes w/the below exceptions requiring 10-minute timeouts. No substitutes are allowed during Sin Bins. The team must play short.

1) The cool-down period for a player that is issued/shown a yellow card for dissent will now be 10 minutes, and his team will play a player down during this period.

2) A player that exhibits aggressive behavior that is not within the realm of the spirit of the game, in the opinion of the referee, will be shown a yellow card and will sit out for a 10-minute cool-down period, and his team will play a player down during this period.

3) In the event of an altercation involving players from two opposing teams, if other players get involved and aggressively engage an opponent, the player(s) will be issued/shown a yellow card and will leave the field of play for a mandatory 10-minute cool-down period, and his team shall play a player down during this period.

4) In the event of an altercation between players, a player that leaves the technical area outside of the field and enters the field of play to engage or participate in any fashion, will be issued a RED CARD and/or will be disqualified from participation for the remainder of the match and will serve a one or more game suspension from future matches.

·       Red Cards require a minimum one-game suspension or more depending on the severity of the infraction.  Red cards for Abusive & Offensive Language towards game officials typically carry a minimum 2-game suspension.  More than one Red Card in any BAASL league is subject to review for suspension/expulsion.

·       Off-sides Rule is in full force and effect.

·       No pets are allowed at the sports complex except dogs that are classified as service animals due to a disability.

·       Only water is allowed on the turf (no sugary drinks, snacks, sunflower seeds, etc).

·       Forfeits: New requirement for Mens 11v11: A forfeit not notified in writing to the league at least 48 hours in advance results in a loss of the team’s forfeit deposit and a one-point deduction in standings.  Furthermore, in the men’s league, a second forfeit or forfeit of a playoff match result in the same.
