WELCOME TO BAASL’s friday 8v8 coed league @ ORINDA!
Dear Friday Orinda players:
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We are so excited to start 2025 with Friday’s Orinda winter league! We are so happy that you will be joining us this season. Please be sure to read all of the information below in order to get you prepared for the season. As always, we ask that each team help roll the goals into place at the beginning and end of each match according to the field diagram pictured at the bottom of this page.
IMPORTANT! Please be aware that Orinda Parks and Recreation has asked that all soccer groups take care to avoid rolling any part of the goals over the curb located at the north end of Field 2 to prevent damage to the goals.
PLEASE READ MORE IMPORTANT INFORMATION RE: YOUR SEASON BELOW

SCHEDULE & STANDINGS
To access the game schedule, at the top of this page click “Schedule & Standings” and find the link to your league.
There are 2 versions of the game schedule. The official master schedule is the “Mysoccerleague” version accessible by using the above “Schedule and Standings” link. The alternate version of the schedule is seen within your Leagueapps player profile and is programmed to email you a game reminder with field location and game time 2 days prior to your match. The Mysoccerleague schedule supersedes the Leagueapps schedule and should always be defaulted to under all circumstances.
The entire season schedule will be posted by next week to both “Mysoccerleague” and “Leagueapps” online schedules.
All games will be at 8pm and 9pm. Matches are 50-minutes long with two 25-minute halves.
All participants of the 8pm games are asked to assist with rolling the goals into place so that games can be started promptly. We play to the blue lines on the east, west and south, and to the yellow line on the north, as shown on the diagram at the bottom of this page.
The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Dept. is more strict now about protecting the use of permit-holding groups after COVID shutdowns. Our use is limited to 8pm-10pm game times only with a 15-minute grace period at the end of the last game of the day. Players should avoid stepping onto any part of the turf prior to the start of the game in order to avoid encroaching on other permitted groups’ field time. Lights go out exactly at 10:15pm and we must vacate all areas inside and outside of the field, including the parking lot, within 15 mins.

MATCH RULES
BAASL follows FIFA Laws with some modifications to adapt to our game conditions. Many of these modifications were derived by a large pool of team captains during past BAASL captains’ meetings. A summary of key points follows and a link to the complete rules is available in the last bullet or by clicking the Rules & Forms link at the top of this page.
Division winners receive a team trophy and individual medals for each player.
Jerseys or same-colored shirts with identifying numbers required. If there is a jersey conflict, the HOME team is required to change. Always bring a back up color. Teams made up of free agents have a one-season exception from this requirement but still need to have the same color shirt with a number on the back.
Shinguards, long socks and cleats or appropriate athletic shoes are required at all times.
Teams must check-in with the referee prior to the game using a hard copy of the team roster, accessible via your Leagueapps player profile. All team players must be officially registered and appear on the current team roster including a clear headshot photo and jersey number. Guest players are not allowed.
Flying Substitutions are allowed, meaning that subs are unlimited and do not require referee permission but must enter the field from the midfield along the touch line, after the exiting player has cleared the field.
Yellow Card Time-Outs (“Sin Bins”) are observed for 3 minutes. No substitutes allowed during Sin Bins. The team must play short.
Red Cards require a minimum one-game suspension or more depending on the severity of the infraction. Red cards for Abusive & Offensive Language towards game officials carry a minimum 2-game suspension. More than one Red Card in any BAASL league is subject to review for suspension/expulsion.
There is no Off-sides Rule in the 8v8 leagues.
No pets are allowed at the sports complex except dogs that are classified as service animals due to a disability.
Only water is allowed on the turf (no sugary drinks, snacks, sunflower seeds, etc).
Forfeits: A forfeit not notified in writing to the league at least 24 hours in advance results in a loss of the team’s forfeit deposit and a one-point deduction in standings.
Ball Recovery Rule: The person or team who kicks the ball over the fence is required to retrieve the ball if that ball belongs to the opponent. The player who kicked the ball out cannot play until the ball is returned. If there is any confusion as to which team the ball belongs to, the captains should clarify with the referee. If the ball is not accessible, the player who kicked the ball out should arrange to replace the lost ball with its owner.
Coed Designated Players (“DP”) Rule - Minimum 3 females required on the field at all times. One female may be substituted by a male player age 44+. At least one female player must be on the field to avoid a forfeit. A game is not forfeited if the only female player is injured during the course of the match. Possible scenarios:
Option #1 - Three females or more on the field
Option #2 - Two females on the field, plus 1 male age 44 or over
Option #3 - One female on the field, plus 1 male age 44+, and team plays short one player
Option #4 - No female on the field - game is subject to a forfeit, but encouraged to be played as a friendly matchPlease read Complete Match Rules HERE.
