Held at one of the most popular East Bay fields, the Tom Bates Sports Complex, the Thursday and Friday Gilman Co-Ed 8v8 leagues are two of the largest and longest-running BAASL leagues.

The Berkeley Gilman fields are located adjacent to the San Francisco Bay coastline, immediately off the 80 Freeway.  Weather is always breezy and cool, ideal for competitive and recreational soccer.   Players may sign up for one or both leagues.

the details

The Thursday and Friday Gilman Co-Ed 8v8 leagues host year-round seasons.  There is no Thursday soccer in Winter season.  Every season, teams play in two Divisions, A and B.  All games are 8v8 including the goalkeeper, played on half-field, 50 minutes long (two 25 minute halves), and played at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.  All games are played on four turf fields and never cancelled when it rains.

In order to ensure that games are well-regulated, BAASL asks all teams to wear identical jersey tops with numbers on the back.  All players must present their official BAASL player pass at each match.  All games are officiated by certified league referees with many years of experience.

In these Co-ed leagues, all teams must have two female players in the game at all times.  If only one female is available, a male player (age 44+) can substitute for the second female player.  If only one female is available, and no male players(age 44+) are available, then the team must play with one player less.  If there are no females available to play, the match is subject to a forfeit.

BAASL primarily uses FIFA Rules to govern matches, with a few exceptions as listed in the BAASL 8v8 Rules.  Season schedules, standings, and league reminders can be viewed using the link at the top of this page.

Championship games are held at the end of the season.  Winners take home custom-designed individual BAASL champion medals, receive a permanent plaque on the BAASL perpetual trophy, and are awarded a 10% team fee discount for the following season.  Multiple-season winners receive additional awards.
